Translating Research to Practice

NOPREN is led by a strong partnership between the Coordinating Center, based at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity. This structure allows NOPREN to serve as a conduit between researchers, practitioners, and federal nutrition agencies.

NOPREN's work is supported by our Senior Advisors and Leadership Team. These groups inform network governance, structure, and strategic directions.

Our network approach builds bridges between community partners, state and local public health practitioners, federal agencies, and academic researchers. These bridges maximize the speed and effectiveness of policy impact by coordinating across sectors and areas of expertise.

Collaboration strengthens our capacity to:

  • Measure and evaluate policies, programs, and practices
  • Coordinate across different geographic regions
  • Disseminate to important audiences, including other practitioners, state and local health departments, and federal, state, and local policy makers

NOPREN's research agenda is driven by its work groups, where members collaborate to conduct policy-relevant research and evaluation, develop tools and resources, and share cuttting-edge findings, methods, and measures. Work groups aim to grow the professional capacity of their members, build evidence, and support the translation of research to practice.

Membership in NOPREN work groups is voluntary and open to all those who are interested. Visit to learn more:
